Antique Asian Table (Antique Chinese Side Table or Sword Leg Table). This antique Chinese side table or wine table from Shanxi, is a very good example of an early style (pre Ming) form that was still being made into the early Qing period. The size and the other unique properties of this table suggests a certain thoughtful design process. Of special interest is the distinctive manner in which the legs are joined to the table's top, via arrow shaped tenons. This feature adds to the sword handle design of the legs. The apron is nicely carved as well as the spandrels. Two stretchers are between each of the side legs. Originally the entire table would have had a lacquer finish, today the look is almost raw. This raw finish look reveals the beautiful wood grain. The top surface of the table still has a beautiful patina.
